Global engagement

The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) develops and promotes global partnerships that advance UVic's strategic goals for internationalization, which includes:

Providing support to UVic faculty and staff in furthering their international activities
Coordinating international partnerships, projects and programs that enhance UVic's diverse intercultural and global environment
Organizing and hosting international delegations

Global Engagement Strategy

The Office of Global Engagement has the mandate to support the implementation of the University´s Global Engagement Strategy 2023-2028, which highlights the priorities for the next 5 years to become a truly global institution.

March highlights

Campus Kudos (Global edition)

In a special edition of Campus Kudos, nearly sixty staff, faculty, and students were recognized for their exceptional global engagement - making a lasting impact on our campus, in our region, and around the world. Hosted in collaboration with the Office of the President and the Office of Global Engagement, the event celebrated those whose dedication to international work is strengthening UVic as a globally engaged university.

UVic at APAIE 2025 in India

Representatives from UVic ICS, OGE and Co-op and Careers attended the 2025 APAIE (Asia-Pacific Association for International Education) Conference, held in Delhi, India from March 24–28. The conference centered around the theme “Cultivating Global Citizens for the Future: The Higher Education Imperative in the Asia Pacific and Beyond.”

OGE visits to Thailand and China

This month some of our staff members are visiting international partners. Sheryl Karras, Director, Office of Global Engagement, visited the Global Academy at Siam University in Thailand. Sheryl, along with Xianjing Zhang, Global Engagement Officer, and Ralf St. Clair, Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, Faculty of Education, visited Soochow University and the Suzhou City International Office in China.

Upcoming events

International Community of Practice (ICoP)

April 23, 2025

OGE convenes periodic gatherings for UVic’s International Community of Practice (ICoP), which brings together a mix of staff and faculty across campus who are engaged in global initiatives and programs. We will welcome Dr. Budd Hall, Professor Emeritus, School of Public Administration and Dr. Rajesh Tandon, Founding President, Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA).

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) Scholarship Recipient April Gathering

April 8, 2025

OGE will host an April gathering with , , and scholarship recipients as they wrap up their scholarship program at UVic. This academic year, UVic welcomed undergraduate and graduate students from Brazil, Kenya, Morocco, Panama, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
