Free tutoring services for local kids

CORE programs provide personalized, research-based tutoring and support, empowering children with diverse learning needs to thrive!

We offer several different tutoring programs, both at UVic and at various locations across Greater Victoria. CORE tutoring focuses on literacy (reading and writing) and math skills.

Practical experience for UVic students

CORE offers an opportunity for UVic students to gain hands-on teaching experience as they train to become K-12 teachers. This environment provides a great training ground for new teachers to practice their skills through 1:1 tutoring. CORE tutors are:

  • experienced or aspiring educators
  • provided with support and supervision
  • trained and mentored by the Faculty of Education community

CORE Programs

One-on-one tutoring

Weekly 1:1 tutoring sessions tailored to Kindergarten through Grade 8 students, focusing on individualized lesson plans based on thorough assessments.

Book Club

A weekly program fostering a love for reading and discussion, offering students access to a diverse selection of updated books.

English Language Learning

A program designed to enhance English proficiency for non-native speakers through personalized or small group sessions led by an ELL expert.

CORE Mobile

A community-focused initiative providing both in-school and online tutoring services, ensuring accessible academic support through local partnerships.

My child was really struggling to keep up in class, and it was frustrating to see them start to feel like they weren’t good enough. In the one-on-one sessions, their tutor gave them the time and patience they needed, letting them move at their own pace without any pressure. It’s been amazing to see their confidence grow now that they feel more capable."
